Lebanon Commemorates Corporal Sahar Fares on International Women’s Day
International Women’s Day is a time to appreciate the progress and achievements that have been made, to call for changes, and to commemorate the strength and commitment of ordinary women in the history of their countries and cultures.
On Women’s Day, Lebanon commemorates the courageous Sahar Fares, a corporal in the Fire Fighting department who has lost her soul trying to suppress the fire on the Port of Beirut, minutes before the explosion.
Yesterday, Sahar´s family and fiancé honored her on Women’s day by creating a memorial for the first female corporal martyr in Lebanon.
To save her country, Sahar sacrificed her life, and in the eyes of the Lebanese, she will always be a hero.
