What’s Good Lebanon : Grassroots Lebanon Launches a Sewing Workshop as Unemployment Surges
Grassroots Lebanon is responding to Lebanon’s escalating unemployment crisis by arranging training workshops in several industries and partnering with the private sector, which comes in tandem with one of its core objectives of empowering women and the youth sector.
Who is Grassroots Lebanon?
Grassroots Lebanon is a non-profit organization made up of a network of self-driven Lebanese citizens carrying the values of cooperation, solidarity, and inclusion.
Grassroots Lebanon has been operational and active since late 2019, but it became a popular response throughout the aftermath of the 4th of August 2020 blast, where hundreds of high-spirited Lebanese women and men from all layers of society chose to stand together and assisted in evacuating the victims, cleaning wreckage, preparing and distributing food to the distraught people, providing medical and psychological help and support, and assisting in the restoration of all facets of the catastrophic event.
Aims and Goals
The free and moderate voices of Grassroots Lebanon aim to develop the culture of self-initiative to increase a sense of autonomy and unity among Lebanese communities, thereby ensuring a long-term beneficial impact in Lebanese communities.
Also, among the various goals pursued by the organization are the reduction of poverty, hunger, and inequities while providing excellent health and wellbeing, as well as the provision of quality, resilient, and vocational education leading to decent jobs and economic progress.
Sewing-Clothing -Tailoring workshop
Grassroots Lebanon is holding sewing classes with one of its key partners, Emile Rassam Company, which is hosting a five-day free sewing and apparel industry training course at its existing facility in the Mkalles district.
The workshop aims to provide Lebanese individuals with an added set of skills to help them land a job opportunity amid the crippling economic and unemployment crisis.
It is also worth noting that the organization would be providing allowance for transportation and food throughout the 5 days workshop.
